News from our vibrant community
The Westgate Concert Band is a vibrant, inclusive community ensemble based in Melbourne's west. As a symphonic woodwind, brass, and percussion group, the band welcomes musicians of all ages and abilities, fostering a nurturing environment for members to develop their skills and share the joy of music with their local community.
The band is now seeking an experienced Musical Director to provide artistic leadership and guide the ensemble's musical development. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting rehearsals and performances, mentoring musicians, and collaborating with the volunteer committee to deliver an engaging program of concerts and community events (position description and KPI available on request). This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of this dedicated community band.
2025: Year in Review
2025 was a stellar year for Westgate Concert Band. We presented three massive performances, growing our band networks and collaborative opportunities, as well as taking part in the Western Bands Festival. Our members made it all possible and we have been delighted to welcome a host of new players (from across the world even!) and indoctrinate two long standing members to the rank of Life Member!
West Gate Neighbourhood Fund
We are excited to be a recipient of the Victorian Government’s West Gate Neighbourhood Fund. This support has allowed us to finally repair our percussion instruments!
2024: Year in Review
Westgate Concert Band celebrated its 45th year in style. With two major concerts, plenty of community outreach events and honing our skills at the inaugural Western Bands Festival, it was a busy one! We were thrilled to welcome several new players, each growing the sound and strength of our ensemble, and award two 20 Years of Service awards at our Presentation Night.
2022: Year in Review
In 2022, Westgate Concert Band reawakened! No one needs to be reminded of the severe impact that pesky respiratory virus had on our activities, and despite valiant efforts to keep our ensemble alive via zoom, nothing quite compares to creating music together once again. This year Westgate worked hard to regain their musical skills and their ‘chops’, were thrilled to welcome a collection of new members, and finally performed under our new musical director.
